Kathryn Lee (Mann) Horen, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away at home on July 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 6,1948, Kathy lived a life defined by resilience, devotion, and a boundless capacity for love. Kathy was the cherished wife of I. Richard Horen, her husband and soulmate for 58 beautiful years. Together, they raised four children: son Geoff Horen (Heather), daughter Tracey Sexton, who was preceded in death by her husband Ron, daughter Kiersten Morton (Brian), and son Ryan Horen (Deanna).
Kathy’s love for her children was immeasurable, and she considered them her greatest
accomplishments. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, each of
whom she cherished deeply and whose lives she touched with her warmth and unwavering support.
Preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Jacquelyn Mann, and her brothers, Rick and Steve Mann, Kathy overcame a challenging childhood to create a legacy of love and family. She grew up in Beech Grove, however, she was a graduate of Warren Central High School. She earned a Top 10 finish in the “National Miss Junior Achievement” competition, a testament to her early strength and charisma.
Yet, it was her role as a Mother, Wife and Grandmother that truly defined her. Kathy poured her heart into her family, whether hitting ground balls before little league games, creating and running the concession stand at Franklin Township Girls Softball, or cheering at countless events for her children and grandchildren. She was the matriarch who taught her family the true meaning of love, creating a haven of stability and safety she had longed for as a child. Christmas Eve was her favorite day and Sunday dinners with 21 family members were a staple for years, but even when part of the family moved to Florida, “Nana” ensured the entire family stayed connected.
A voracious reader and a spirited visitor to Las Vegas, Kathy’s slot machine prowess was legendary. Her greatest gift, however, was her ability to connect with people. She welcomed strangers as friends, offering kindness and support to all who crossed her path. Her home was her sanctuary where everyone was family. Kathy once wrote that every hug, kiss and kind word from her husband, children and friends completed her life. In truth, those same gestures were the building blocks she gifted to others, creating a legacy of love that will endure through generations.
The family will hold private services to honor Kathy’s memory.
