Kevin was born at St Francis Hospital in Beech Grove as the first child to Mike and Risë Roessler. From 1970 until he was married, he lived in the house in which he raised his children. His grandparents, Graden and Eileen Hoover, whom he adored, lived right across the street. For the first six years after marriage, they lived in the cute apartment above Marcella’s parents, John and Pat Ekis. From birth, Kevin was the center of attention and a comedian.
Kevin and his sister Renáe attended Holy Name grade school and then he went on to Beech Grove High School. As he has always been, Kevin was very busy and full of energy. He was in cub scouting for three years, played alto saxophone in the Holy Name band, and was active in sports. He marched in the Fall Festival Parade as a scout and later in the Beech Grove Marching Band. In grade school sports he played a year of little league baseball, and CYO basketball and football. He didn’t make it past the first game of any season, often, due to a several sprains or a broken leg. During grade school he fractured his elbow, and being Kevin, he broke his cast using it as a tool to play ball on the playground. As a child he was always very clean. He didn’t like to wear dirty clothing and enjoyed wearing nice things.
In the band, Kevin played the alto and tenor sax and was the featured player his senior year with the marimba. He has always been very musical, and enjoyed playing the piano from a very young age. After High School Kevin started a band and wrote several great songs.
When Kevin was nineteen, he met the love of his life. A year later, Kevin and Marcella were starting their life together, including marriage on November 1, 1986 and their firstborn son. Damon Michael was welcomed into the world on February 23, 1987. Tori Deanne joined the family on July 8, 1993, and Kevin was instantly wrapped around her little finger. Kevin was incredibly involved in his children’s lives. Between coaching football teams for Damon and cheering Tori on at softball games, Kevin loved to see his children happy. Kevin worked hard so that Marcella could stay at home with Damon and Tori, and keep the family as tight knit as possible. He would do anything to support his family and keep Marcella home, where she wanted to be. He worked in the car business for 15 years, various TV and radio stations, advertising, and had started his own business a few months before he passed. If Kevin was anything, he was determined. Once a thought was in his head, it was guaranteed that he would accomplish it. Kevin made it a point to instill these values in his children. Marcella was always the apple of Kevin’s eye. He adored his sweet wife, and he made sure that everyone around him knew how much he loved her.
On December 11, 2004 Kevin welcomed his first grandchild, Brooke Danielle Roessler, into the world. He immediately fell in love with her, and they developed an incredibly strong bond. When Damon was deployed overseas in the Army, Brooke would spend visitation with Marcella, Kevin, and Tori at Damon’s childhood home. When Brooke’s mom would come to pick her up, Brooke would stand at the top of the stairs and tell Kevin goodbye. He always said, “Bye honey,” to Brooke, and before he knew it.. his name from Brooke had become Honey.
Kevin adored his enormous extended family. In all, he is survived by his loving wife Marcella Jane, his son Damon (Linda) Roessler, his daughter Tori Roessler, his mother Risë (Lewis) Shake, his father: Michael Roessler, his sister Renáe (Jon) Schoening, his granddaughter Brooke Roessler, and fifteen nieces and nephews.
