Ray was born in Ano, Kentucky to Albert and Amy Chaney on November 15, 1930. He went to Franklin Township schools in Indianapolis. He married Mary Jane Robb on April 21, 1951 in Indianapolis. He worked at Chrysler for 35 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army. He was involved in several programs at Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene including Centurions, Counters, Sports and Boy Scouts.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane, his parents Albert and Amy, his brothers Clifford, Paul and Elza Chaney, his sisters Nina Heeringa and Alma Hellwege.
Ray is survived by his children Diann (Joseph) Cary, Patricia Setzler, Randy (Meg) Chaney, and Janell (Dean) Glascock, his sister Eula VanHook, his grandchildren Mary (Timothy) Williams, Amy (Justin) Baird, Bethany (Mike) Fischer, Joseph Cary II, Heather (Tom) Beeson, Morgan (Jeremy) Shepherd, Erika (Justin) Hersberger, John Cary, Drew Glascock, Caryn (Brian) Sandwisch, Jessica (Jake) Grider, William (Taylor) Cary, Dayna (Cadan) Goldstein, Alexis (Brandon) Mitchell, Jonathan (Riley) Chaney and Faith Glascock, and 25 Great-Grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5PM to 8PM Monday, March 3 and 10AM to 11AM Tuesday, March 4 at Southside Nazarene Church with Rev. Andrew Rice of Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be at 2PM at Washington Park East Cemetery. Arrangements are by Little and Sons Funeral Home.
