Born on May 9th, 1944 in Beech Grove, Indiana, Rita was the daughter of Elijah Dycus and Hazel Dycus. She attended Franklin Central High School. Rita married her dedicated and loving husband, Jim Moore, on November 22nd, 1963, and were a vibrant and remarkable pair who you could always count on being together. It was known that if you were to see one, you would always see the other. Their lives forever changed when they welcomed their daughter, Brenda, into the world in 1967. Jim and Rita spent much time traveling and enjoying time with family.
Rita was a proud Beech Grove resident, president of the Beech Grove Senior Center for multiple years, as well as being crowned Queen of the Senior Center in 2016. Her passion for creativity came out best in her jewelry making, coloring, and her fashion tastes. She was generous with her time, her vested interest, and her faith. At any time, if you needed prayer for any reason, Rita would pick up the phone and start a prayer chain that stretched across the country. You could always call Rita, or you could count on her calling you, always ready to hear about your current events. Next to her faith, her family was everything to her. She was known for making sure you weren’t hungry. Whether it was calling to ask what you had for dinner, baking a cake for your birthday, or hosting her famous Thanksgiving dinners, one of her languages of love was through food.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Elijah Dycus, and her siblings, Martha White (Jess), Dan Dycus (Zola), Charles Dycus (June).
She is survived by her husband, Jim Moore, daughter, Brenda Moore Maschmeyer (Mark), grandson, Jacob Maschmeyer (Olivia), and great grandson, “little boy blue”, Wesley.
Services will be held at the Beech Grove Little & Son’s location June 26th, with visitation at 11am and service at 1pm. There will be a gathering at the Beech Grove Senior Center following burial, everyone is welcome.
