Stanley Donald Schiffli

Stanley Donald Schiffli, age 99, of Beech Grove, Indiana passed away on Tuesday February 25, 2020. Stanley was born May 15, 1920 in Waterloo, Indiana to the late Frances (Hoffelder) Schiffli and Emil Schiffli. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Ann Schiffli; 9 siblings; nephew, David Layer; and nephew-in-law, Eddie Pendry. A devout Catholic, Don was a member of Mount St. Francis Alumni Association, St. Vincent De Paul Society, and Holy Name Church. He worked as an electrical draftsman for Barth Electric and later Hospice. He had apprenticed with a cabinet maker in his teens and would become a master craftsman in his life. Don was excellent at working with stained glass and all forms of woodworking. He made quality dove tail furniture and even a complete organ for his wife. His skills and ability to make, fix, or improve things was valued by those he worked with including fixing chairs in exchange for the occasional lunch at Napoli. Don also made rosaries in various fashions for missionaries, even teaching others at the Hermitage who will carry on his ministry. Don is survived by his nieces and nephews, Ann Marie Hooten (Dave), Tina Hauer, Karen Layer Pendry, Mark Hauer (Gabi), Janice Layer McCartney (Vince), Melissa Vermillion (Dan), Bryan Layer (Cheryl); and many great nieces and nephews and extended family members. Visitation for Don will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 9:00 AM at St. Paul Hermitage, 501 N 17th Ave, Beech Grove, Indiana. His Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Terre Haute, Indiana.
