Obituary of Thomas John Spearing
Thomas John Spearing, 92, passed away February 28, 2019. He was born on March 4, 1926 in Indianapolis to the late George and Mary Alice Spearing. Thomas served in the US Navy in WWII on the Shenandoah AD-26 and also served in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to Indianapolis and married Mary Catherine Schott in 1950. They had five children in the next eleven years. They were members of Nativity Catholic Church. The family enjoyed traveling and took many camping vacations around the country. Tom and Mary later rafted the Colorado river, snowmobiled in Yellowstone and rode mules to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, along with traveling several times to Europe. They also enjoyed several windjammer sailing cruises. Tom was a very hard-working entrepreneur and founded several successful businesses. In 1970 he founded Spearing and Associates. He retired in 1979 when his children Ed, Carol and Paul took over the business. Tom and Mary then moved to their family property outside of North Vernon, IN where they enjoyed many years of retirement, returning to Indianapolis and family for their last years. Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Catherine Schott Spearing, siblings: George Spearing Jr., Agnus Smith, Joseph Spearing and Mary Warholak. He is survived by his children: Edmund (Rosemary) Spearing, Carol (Jim) Leonberger, Paul (Susie) Spearing, Joan (Ted) Dudash, Phyllis (Tony) Shea along with 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandsons. Visitation will be held at Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 5:00pm-7:30pm. Funeral Services will be held at Nativity Catholic Church on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior to the start of the service.
