Obituary of William Bennett Abney
William Bennett Abney April 9, 1939 - February 18, 2019 William B. Abney of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the age of 79. William was born on April 9, 1939 in Rockcastle county, Kentucky to parents Albert Leonard and Mattie Lou (Burdette) Abney. He graduated from Arsenal Tech High School and served proudly in the United States Air force. Known as "Bennie" to his family, and "Bill" to his friends, he was a life member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, and a Master Mason from 1968 to 1997. He had a passion for painting and drawing, was a motor racing enthusiast and once owned a stock car that was raced at the Kitley Speedrome in Indianapolis. He was known for his kindness and compassion, his enjoyment of a good debate, and his deep blue, beautiful eyes. He was the quintessetial family man: a devoted and loyal son and brother, a doting and dedicated father, and a proud and playful grandfather. He had a selfless and loving heart, and leaves a huge void that will be difficult to fill. He is survived by his children: Gina Abney (James), Dana Winings (Keith), and Katelyn Whisner (Zachary); his grandchildren: Mitchell, Madision, Max and Makenzie Winings, and Carter Whisner; his great-grandchildren: Gabriel and James Kayden Abney; his sister: Connie Sue Turner (Eddie); and a host of much-loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Marvin Dean Abney. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019 at Little and Sons Beech Grove Chapel, 1301 Main Street, Beech Grove IN 46107 with funeral services immediately following. Burial to follow at New Crown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
