Anna Rose Keller

Anna Rose Dickinson Keller was born in Skidmore, Texas on October 3, 1940. Anna Rose was the only female child born to Faye Lucille Powell, and Willie Edwin (Ed) Dickinson. She is predeceased by her parents and by all three of her older brothers.

At that time Anna’s father was trying his hand at cattle raising and farming land. Her Dad spent his time through in previous years as a businessman in Beeville, Texas, with a restaurant known as the Busy Bee. In later years, he would run a more prosperous one known as the Bluebonnet Café and would count as one of his customers Lyndon B. Johnson. He had in his lifetime run restaurants, a dairy farm, and a small cattle ranch. Ed could not make a living off the land however as he wanted to do but kept coming back to the restaurant business in the small town. Finally, as Anna was older her father went to work in the food galley of the “Mr. Gus”, an offshore drilling rig, from which he finally retired.

Anna graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, met the love of her life there, George M. Keller, and they were married in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on February 3, 1963. She worked in John F. Kennedy’s Presidential campaign and proudly considered herself a lifelong Democrat. She and her new husband moved to Houston, Texas in 1964. They had two children. A daughter, Shannon Melynda Keller (now married to Robert Taylor) and a son, Derek Jordan Keller (now married to Veronica Keller), were both born in Sharpstown General Hospital in Houston.

Anna Rose and George served as Bazaar Chairmen at St. Francis De Sales Parish in 1983, bringing in a great amount of money and having a really great time. Things were not to stay as wished though and she and George Keller divorced in 1991. George Keller died on May 16, 1993. Anna worked for a time for Foley’s Bridal Registry at the old Sharpstown Mall but finally went to work for the Texas Medical Center, starting there as a front desk receptionist. She was a co-chairman of the TMC Team for March of Dimes Walk America for 5 years and aided in the Food Drives. She then served as Senior Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police for Texas Medical Center Police & Security Services – where she finally retired.

Anna loved working with the members of the law enforcement community and felt very fulfilled by the good people and good times she had in that position. She was truthfully one of those people who loved her job and liked people. She was working in this position when the attack came on the World Trade Center on 9/11 and said often that she would always remember those few frantic hours. Anna Keller served on the Board of Directors of the Council of Co-Owners for the condominiums she lived in after her retirement.

She was a member of the Catholic faith, a loyal, diligent co-worker, who did indeed care about others in her community, loved music with a passion – loved to laugh, and loved her children.
