Barb was born on April 30, 1964, on Long Island in New York, then grew up in Bethel Park in the south hills of Pittsburgh, where she was the glue that held together her family of 12. In the hot summer of 1980, she picked up her roots and planted them in Plano, Texas, where she met her high school sweetheart, John Moak.
In high school, Barb attended her first Texas A&M football game, and since then, her love for the university and its community only continued to grow. She attended Texas A&M with two of her sisters, living in the same apartment, cherishing every Aggie tradition together. While attending the institution, she and John dated long distance for four years, while he attended Southern Methodist University.
In the summer of ‘86, they both graduated, married, moved, and started their family owned business. From there, her career continued to flourish. She managed several retail stores before she found her talent as a florist in Grapevine. After starting a family, she then taught at Corinth Elementary in Special Education, before transitioning to K-5 science lab.
In 1988, Barb found her truest calling as mother to four incredible children: Emma, Collin, Maggie, and Jamie. Barb taught her kids how to love– demonstrating great, generous love for each other and their community. She poured her heart into creating a warm, loving home, not just for her own, but for many others. For thirty years, she never missed a regatta, performance, or game as ballet mom, soccer mom, sailing mom, team mom, band mom, drill-team mom, Aggie mom, and UNT mom. Her constant, grounding love, anchored her family, friends, and community. Barb remains the blueprint for great love, courage, and strength, and her life’s work continues on in her children.
She is preceded in death by her father W. Thomas Ott, her mother Teresa Ott, brothers Tim Ott, Tom Ott, and Joe Ott, sister, Sue Ann Starr, and sister-in-law, Geannine Ott. Barb is survived by her husband John Moak, her children, Emma & Matt, Collin & Leslie, Maggie, Jamie & Sara, her grandchildren, Timmy, Sophie, and Charlotte, and her family, Mary Kay Willcox, Margaret & Dan Stutzman, Maureen & David Gray, Cathy Ott, Ellen & Brian Reeves, Dan & Martha Weston, Rush & Dana Weston, and Jennifer Weston. As well as a clan of in-laws, outlaws, nieces, nephews, and friends who became family, all of whom will dearly miss her love and laughter.
Barb guided, nurtured, and cheered on so many in her life, and in doing so, created a place for all of us to share. We welcome you to join us in her happy place.
