Bennie Marie Ferruggia 97 of Houston, Texas went to be with our Lord on May 5, 2013. She was born in Houston in 1916 to Joseph and Elizabeth Marino. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Augustine Marino and her husband Dominick Ferruggia. She is survived by her son Victor A. Ferruggia, daughter Antoinette Trejo and husband Roger, grandchildren Nicholas Trejo and Melissa Miller and husband Trae, her nephew Victor J. Ferrugia and numerous cousins and friends.
Bennie was a life long member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral and a faithful servant of our Lord. As a little girl she attended 6:00 am Mass every Sunday morning with her mother, received her First Holy Communion and Confirmation, and was married there. While her children attended school, she was very active in the mother’s club working in the bookroom, ordering school supplies, cooking in the cafeteria, and helping out in the library. She helped to clean the church dusting the pews and decorating the church for Easter and Christmas. She volunteered her time for every bazaar making many delicious cakes to help support her beloved parish. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 25 years.
Everyone that knew Bennie loved her. She always had a kind word and wished everyone happiness and God’s blessing. Her wisdom surpassed any formal education always listening and giving loving advice and support to those who sought it. When anyone needed a prayer, they would call Bennie, and she would faithfully pray the rosary for them and her prayers were always answered.
She was a very independent woman and until a few years ago she continued to cook, clean house, and work in her yard. She loved making spaghetti and meatballs and Christmas cookies which she shared with her friends.
Her grandchildren, Melissa and Nicholas were her pride and joy. She helped to care for them when they were babies and delighted in every milestone they accomplished.
Bennie was not a world traveler, but she walked with the Lord every day of her life. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends and the staff at St. Dominic’s.
