
Sr. Blanche Gothia, O.P. died April 26, 2011. Sister Blanche was born to the late Elton and Blanche Landry Gothia on October 27, 1930, in Port Arthur, TX. Sister joined the Dominican Sisters of Houston on September 24, 1948. She was preceded in death by her brother Elton, Jr. She is survived by her nieces Barbara Umphrey, Vickie DuBose, and LuAnne Gothia, and by her nephew Nicky Gothia, and great nieces and nephews.
Sister enjoyed her educational ministries which were carried out in Beaumont (St. Anthony) where she served as both teacher and principal; Galveston; Orange; LaMarque; Wharton; Lufkin; Houston (Christ the King, St. Christopher, St. Agnes Academy as Media Coordinator for 27 years, Mt. Carmel High School as librarian, and at Incarnate Word Convent as librarian).
Sister Blanche will be remembered for her interesting guided tours to Europe, her beautiful art work, and her delicious meals which she served with such finesse.
Sister’s body will be welcomed at St. Dominic Villa at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 28. The wake service is at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, and the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Martin Iott, O.P. will preside. All services will take place at St. Dominic Villa.
In lieu of the usual remembrances, donations may be made to Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund, 6501 Almeda Road, Houston, TX 77021. Burial is in Forest Park Lawndale.
