Burton Edward Swartz, age 92, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2026, surrounded by family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he lived a long and meaningful life defined by love, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to those he cared for.
Born on June 3, 1933, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, he grew up with a strong sense of responsibility that guided him throughout his life. He spent 20 years in the United States Air Force, including service during two wars, and retired with the rank of Major. Though he spoke rarely about his military years, the discipline, steadiness, and resilience he carried throughout his life reflected that chapter.
After completing his service, he built a successful second career in real estate. He approached his work with honesty, determination, and a belief that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing well. His clients and colleagues trusted him because he earned that trust every day.
He was married to his beloved wife, Marilyn, for 47 years. Together they created a home grounded by the values of hard work, commitment, and caring for your family not just in words, but in action. As a father, he was firm but deeply devoted to his family, and his lessons continue to shape the lives of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his children Cynthia, David, and Jonathan, his sons-in-law Bill and Gary, daughters-in-law Kim and Sarah, and his ten grandchildren, Madisen, Rachel, Grace, Mary, Jacob, Matthew, Ethan, Evan, Gavin, and Dylan. He is preceded in death by two of his children, Cheryl and Cristy, who now welcome him home.
He lived a life well lived, full of purpose, devotion, and quiet strength. His legacy endures in the family he raised and the values he instilled.
A burial with military honors will be held on January 16th at 9:15 in the morning at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. The family extends their gratitude to all who have offered support during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, which can be done so in Burt's honor by using this link: https://fundraising.stjude.org/goto/BurtSwartz
