Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris departed this life peacefully at his home on August 9, 2014, where he was surrounded by his family. He was born on April 10, 1938 to Henry and Gladys Prenell Harris in Chenneyville, Louisiana. Calvin was baptized at an early age by the late Reverend Curtis at Union Chapel Baptist Church in Lloyd Bridge, Louisiana. He was united in holy matrimony to Vivian Louie Harris in Alexandria, Louisiana on May 13, 1966. Calvin had five children whom he loved dearly. He was ordained as a Deacon on December 4, 1966 at Greater Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Houston Texas, under the leadership of the late Reverend Emerson Butcher. In 1986, he joined New Faith Church under the leadership of Dr. Theodore R. Williams, Sr., where he served faithfully as an Usher and Van Driver until he became ill. Calvin retired from Baker Hughes where he worked for 23 years. He most recently worked at the West Orem YMCA for several years where he often enjoyed talking to everyone he came into contact with constantly encouraging them to exercise. He never met a stranger. Calvin enjoyed being outdoors, working in his yard and garden; and having his daily coffee. He was a man of integrity who took great pride in imparting his words of wisdom to his children and grandchildren every chance he got. To know him was to know a man who deeply loved the Lord, his family, and his friends.

Calvin leaves to cherish his wife Vivian of 48 wonderful years; five children; Brenda (Ronald); Calvin Jr.; Michael (Shirley); Abe (Myra); and Lorraine (Herman); two godchildren, Dexter and Janice; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Julian; James; Albert (Luberta); six sisters, Rose; Laurece; Willie Mae; Gloria; Floria (John); and Ellener (John); one sister-in-law, Marilyn, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings Earl, Laura, and Ollie Lee; mother-in-law, Annie Lee; father-in-law, Lemuel; and two brothers-in-law, Johnny Ray and Vernell Louie.
