Carol Jane Ivy made her entrance into this world through Dallas, Texas in April of 1946. Born to two devoted parents, Clara Mae Copeland Ivy and John Elvin Ivy, she was the beloved little sister of Jim Stephen Ivy whom she looked up to all her days.
Born into the generation of Baby Boomers, she joined the ranks of the Hippies in the 1960’s. She was a true flower child among them. She stood up to fight against injustices - The War, Civil Rights, World Hunger, and others. Ivy has been described “as a true child of her time.” Her values and moral compass never strayed from these and other social issues that persisted over the decades.
After high school Ivy pursued higher education at various universities in Texas and Mexico, graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a double major. She was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, a photographer, a carpenter, a seamstress, a painter, an amateur veterinarian among many other creative things. Her talents were many and admired by those who knew and loved her.
Ivy enjoyed a decades long career in education that spanned all ages and subjects. Her first students in The Valley taught her more than she could teach them. This inspiration was the catalyst to her lifelong teaching career. She also taught at Mrs. Wagner’s/Trafton Academy, Longfellow Elementary, Herod Elementary, Paul Revere Middle School, Sharpstown High School, and Wimberley High School.
Ivy had four daughters. Heather Rose, Amber Leah, Asia Raven, and Ginger Ivy. She was a committed, attentive, and entertaining mother. She taught her girls courage, empathy, compassion, kindness, bravery, independence, and the importance of family. She was surrounded by her girls at the time of her peaceful passing in her home.
Ivy is survived by her husband, James R. Nodine, her children Heather Williamson, Amber & Joshua DeFord, Asia & Jeremiah Smith, Ginger & Justin Greenberg, and their father, Peter D. Williamson. She adored her 7 grandchildren, Aria & Oliver Williamson-Tonan, Zoe & Elise DeFord, Aaron Williamson, and Gavin & Cooper Greenberg. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Stephen Ivy and sister-in-law Nancy Ivy, her nephews Jim and Jeff Ivy and their loving families.
We would like to acknowledge all the students and friends who also called her “Mom.”
