Cindy Walker

Cindy Walker, born on December 21, 1949, passed away on December 19, 2025. Cindy was born in Palestine, TX to R.D. Walker and Mary L. Carter. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Scott Carter Walker and close friend, Faith Eichler. She is survived by sisters Mary Becker, Shore Acres, TX, Pat (Mike) Cudd, Gruver, TX and Margie Walker, North Richland Hills, TX; nieces, nephews, and close friends, Kay Metcalf, Laura Sutherland, Lynn Tauber and Sarah Bottomley along with her two precious cats, Georgie Girl and Daisy.

A lifelong Houstonian, Cindy received a bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree in social work from the University of Houston. After forty-two years of dedicated service to her patients and students, she retired from Memorial Hermann Hospital in 2017.

When Hermann Life flight was introduced in 1976, Cindy was assigned to the shock trauma unit. It was there she found her passion. On the darkest and most terrifying days for patients and their families, Cindy was their calm—listening to all they would share and treating everyone with dignity, respect, compassion and patience. In 1994, Memorial Hermann highlighted Cindy’s dedication in the Hermann Hospital Magazine, Winter edition, “The Whole Picture, Shock Trauma Social Worker Cindy Walker”. Her shock trauma and Life Flight colleagues always held a special place in her heart.

Countless social work students from the University of Houston did their field placement with Cindy at Memorial Hermann. It never took long for students to realize they had one of the best social workers educating and providing them with unforgettable knowledge and experiences. Cindy was ethical, exceptional and iconic, always seeing the best in people. She will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.

A memorial service followed by a reception will be held on Saturday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston.
