Daniel Adam Rosen

September 3, 1989July 10, 2019

With profound sadness we mourn the passing of our dear son and brother, Daniel Adam Rosen, age 29, who passed away much too soon on July 10, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. He was born on September 3, 1989, in Houston, Texas.

Daniel was an amazing person with a smile that would light up his whole face, but the only thing larger than his 6’2” frame was his heart of gold. He was always ready to make you laugh with his quick wit and gave the world’s best hug. Daniel attended Episcopal High School and graduated from the University of Alabama. Daniel loved Alabama football and celebrated with each National Championship. He also loved fishing and boating, the beach, studying the Talmud, cooking, debating politics and being with his friends and family, especially his girlfriend, Amy Vertun.

He was the beloved son of Judy and Alan Rosen; brother to Robyn (Brian) Goldstein and Jonathan (fiancé Kimberly Kurtin) Rosen; uncle to Emma and Austin Goldstein; and grandson of Sylvia Goldstein; he is preceded in death by his grandparents Robert Goldstein and Helen and Max Rosen; he is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, July 17 at Congregation Beth Yeshurun.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you discuss the devastating effects of addiction with the children in your life, or a donation to Bo’s Place, Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, or Jewish Family Service.

Dear Alan and family,
It is with great sadness that I write to express condolences for the premature loss of Daniel. Your bravery and selflessness, even in the midst of your personal grief, reminds us all of the tragic toll of addiction.
Perhaps originating elsewhere, but well spoken in the movie “Hope Floats”, is a quote that has provided me with comfort on more than one occasion :
“Beginnings are scary, endings are sad; it’s what’s in the middle that counts the most”.
You are in our thoughts and prayers,
Flossy Eddins-Folensbee and family

So sorry to hear of your loss. Words cannot express feelings which you have but I know what you are going through since I experienced I He same with the death of our daughter. We all have such fragile lives and in a second so many things can change. It will be difficult for a while but time does tend to deaden the pain and you remember all he wonderful parts of your son’s life. Know you are in my thoughts and may you and your family weather the storm in a peaceful constructive way.

I have vivid memories of carpool with Daniel and my daughter Rebecca having to ride facing backwards in my Volvo Station wagon. They would be making faces at the persons behind me and I never could understand why I got such looks when the drivers passed me.

Not to minimize tragedy of this unfortunate event, and as a message to all parents of children, regardless of their age, addiction is a disease that has taken many loved ones from their families prematurely. Identifying the problem early enough does not guaranty success, but gives one a chance. My niece, Rachel , died under similar circumstances and the grief persists for my brother and sister-in-law. Cliff and I send our sincere condolences to our friends and neighbors, the Rosen family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Daniel on our Birthright trip to Israel back in 2016. Even though we only spent 10 days on the trip together, everyone became like family. He was a very outgoing person and we had a lot of fun during the trip. My favorite memory of Daniel was us doing the dab (dance move) at all the historic sites. He will be forever missed.
