Despite facing numerous health challenges over the past five years, Dennis never wavered in his love for his family or his commitment to living life fully. He was a devoted husband to Dorothy, his loving wife of 53 years, and a proud father to his only son, Waylon Denson Fields, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Cass Fields. He was a cherished grandfather to his two grandchildren, Waylon Cass Fields, age 4½, and Wyatt William Fields, age 3.
Dennis is also survived by his brother, Jack E. (“Bo”) Fields and his wife, Leslie, and his brother, James L. (“Jim”) Fields; his nephews, Jay Fields and his wife, Kristen, and Dan Fields and his wife, Susan; his nieces, Laura Fields, and Jackie Pierce and her husband, Will; as well as numerous extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Chester Jay Fields, and his wife, Kathy; and his sister-in-law, Martha Fields.
Dennis graduated from Bellaire High School in 1967 and received his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University in 1971.
Dennis was a practical and hardworking man who built a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years as an engineer and manager in the oil and gas industry. He specialized in project and construction management across onshore developments, offshore platforms, and subsea projects.
His work took him around the world, including the Gulf of Mexico, the Middle East (Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates), Egypt, India, the Far East (China, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Indonesia), West Africa (Nigeria), Kazakhstan, South America (Peru), and Europe. Among the most cherished memories of his career were the opportunities to live abroad with his young family and to work offshore alongside his son in Israel.
Dennis was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting in Kaufman and Stanmire and fishing on Lake Livingston. He was especially known for fishing for white bass and knew the lake and its hidden fishing spots like the back of his hand, even creating hand-drawn maps to share with family and friends. He loved telling jokes and playing pranks on everyone around him. His lively stories, down-home wisdom, warm hugs, and generous heart will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating Dennis’s life will be held at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM. He will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard, Texas, at a later date.
