Donald “Don” H. Glaeser, passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016, in the company of his wife, Carol. Don was born on August 4, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, the only child of Ernest Glaeser and Lillian Busch Glaeser. He was a bright student, graduating high school at the age of 16. He went on to earn a B.S., M.S., and a D.Sc. in Electrical Engineering while attending Washington University in St. Louis. Don was an active member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity during and after college.
In 1969 Don relocated his family from St. Louis to Houston, Texas to work for Dr. Michael DeBakey at the Baylor College of Medicine where he remained for 40 years. Don played volleyball and tennis. He doted on all of his pet Dobermans. He also enjoyed grilling, a good martini, sleeping late, and sitting in his recliner watching TV. Don was an avid reader and remained interested in computers after retirement. Don and his wife, Carol, enjoyed going to the Alley Theater and hosting Sunday dinners for family.
Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Keegan Glaeser; son Dr. Kenneth Glaeser and wife Holly; daughter Patricia Glaeser Butler; grandchildren Christin Glaeser Nutter, Brittany Glaeser, Rachel Mehl, Peyton Butler, and Brenna Butler; great-grandchildren Rhylee Nutter and Reid Nutter; brother-in-law Edward Keegan, Jr., cousins Faye Brenk, Denny Busch, Terry Busch, and Eugene Lehr; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lillian Glaeser, and by his oldest daughter, Diana Glaeser.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, Sept. 2nd at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held the following day.
The Glaeser family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the attentive staff at Bayou Manor, who managed Don’s care with the utmost consideration and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Don Glaeser’s honor to the Houston Humane Society.
