Dorothy was born at home in Hillje, Texas on Christmas Day in 1931. She was a graduate of El Campo High School where she played the clarinet in the marching band and served as Parliamentarian. Dorothy completed business classes at The University of Houston and had a long career in the oil industry serving in administrative roles at various companies, including Apache and The Coastal Corporation. She lived most of her adult life in Houston and returned to El Campo in her later years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Kacal Bellis, of Corona del Mar, CA and her two granddaughters, Hilarie Bellis of San Francisco and Avery Bellis of Los Angeles. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Leona Gertrude Blinka Buzek Brown and Julius Rudolph Buzek, step-father Nolan Brown, as well as her husband, William (Bill) Joseph Kacal. Dorothy is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Bobby Bartlett and Terry Bartlett (Anna) of El Campo, Joleen Evans (Chris) and family of Houston, as well as Carl Savage of the Houston area.
The family would like to extend their great appreciation to the staff of Garden Villa who provided such loving care to Dorothy for many years. You became her extended family and we are forever grateful. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garden Villa Nursing Home - Activities Department.
Service and burial will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 25 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, TX. Reception immediately following.
Pallbearers are Bobby Bartlett, Terry Bartlett, Steve Bellis, Joe Kacal, Carl Savage and Phil Tyler.
