Dr. Milagros Dionisio Aguilos

She was born January 9, 1949 in Manila, Philippines to Fidelino and Adalia Dionisio. Her name ‘Milagros’ meaning miracle was given to her as she survived a stillbirth. Following the footsteps of her mother, Milagros (aka Mila) received her Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree from the University of Philippines and practiced general dentistry prior to immigrating to the United States.

As the eldest of ten siblings, Mila maintained communication with family members throughout the US and Philippines. She was often called upon to celebrate momentous occasions and was the life of the party, especially on the dance floor. In her second career, Mila worked in the airline industry, so she was able to travel with her family and discover the world. She loved to cook and enjoyed journaling so she wrote about her experiences throughout her life.

Mila’s legacy lies with her children and grandchildren. She was married for 33 years and had three children. Her eldest, Marcos Aguilos, is an entrepreneur in real estate and is married to Julia; they have two children, Leonardo “Leo” (6) and Lana (4). Her daughter, Dr. Michelle Thompson is an assistant professor and general dentist. She is married to Dr. Jason Thompson and they have two children, Jason Jr. (4) and Nora Jean (1). Her youngest, Marlene Murphy is finalizing her education in law enforcement and is married to Jeffrey Murphy and they have two dogs, Rei and Bowie.

Being a grandma or ‘Lola’ brought Mila the most joy. She always reminded her children and grandkids of how much she loved them. Mila was a fighter. Although she suffered from chronic illnesses for most of her late adulthood, she survived for so many years because she wanted to be part of their lives.

A memorial mass and reception is scheduled on Thursday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Houston, Texas.
