Earl Littman was born on Long Island, N.Y., January 27, 1927, and died, Monday, September 25th, 2023, on the holiest day in the Jewish religion, Yom Kippur, in Houston as The AD MAN. Earl served in WWII as a Navy Medic. This was a little-known fact until recent years when military service became an obsession. Earl was recognized for his creative genius at Houston’s oldest, independent advertising agency for close to 40 years at Goodwin, Dannenbaum, Littman & Wingfield. Some of the many slogans Earl was recognized for included: “Get with It. Get with The Houston Post”. For the Houston Police Department, “The Badge Means You Care”. His personal campaign he brought to HISD elementary schools: “Drugs Kill”. A non-profit he started “Back our Vets”. He created the Red Barrel campaign for Mary Barden Keegan’s “End Hunger Network”. Barbara Falik prevailed on her husband, Harold, to get those red barrels into their family business, Weingarten’s grocery stores. Earl named the “Heart and Soul” Fun run for Transco’s Marathon when he was an avid runner for over 45 years. 1979 was his banner year for running a marathon a month in different cities across the U.S. and Europe. Earl helped guide politicos into local, state and national politics. And, in his 80’s he had his own radio show, "Tell it to the World”, where he invited local everyday people to come tell their story.
His story included his marriage to Natalie Jacobson that he celebrated extravagantly with billboards, fly-over banners and parties each year. “Two in a Million” was printed on pins with their picture on them. Earl loved his relationships with GDL&W employees, the Affiliated Advertising Agencie's, YPO, WPO, ADL, The Houstonian, and so many non-profits he provided pro bono work for. All of those connections were meaningful to Earl and gave him his purpose.
He leaves behind his three children: His pride and joy, his only son, Michael and wife, Mary with sons Ryan (Katie) and Robert. His eldest daughter Erica and husband, Ronnie Humphrey and son, Brent (Stephanie) and his great grandchildren, Nolan and Melanie Humphrey. His daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Larry, and their children, Clay, Jenn, Lee, Collin, Alexandra and his great grandchild, Josephine.
Earl wanted his final legacy to be his “Love Thy Neighbor” campaign. He truly believed the love he shared with his adoring wife of 76 years conquered all. Please do Earl a favor and “Love Thy Neighbor”.
Funeral services to be Friday, Sept. 29th, 10:00a.m., at Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street. Serving as pallbearers: Michael, Ronnie, Larry, Brent, Clay, Lee, Ryan, Robert, Collin and his great grandson, Nolan.
