

Edison Hamilton Banfield, MD, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015, in Houston, Texas. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to parents, Edna Madelyn and Michael St. Clair Banfield. Edison served in the United States army and was stationed in the South Pacific. He later attended Howard University and Howard University Medical School in Washington, DC. Edison moved to Houston in July, 1959 and started his medical practice at Riverside Clinic on Blodgett Street in Third Ward. He was a board-certified surgeon and a member of the American College of Surgeons. In 1963, Dr. Joseph C. Gathe, also a board-certified surgeon, joined Dr. Banfield at Riverside Clinic. Edison remained in practice until he was 76 years old.
Edison was preceded in death by his parents, son, Edison Banfield Jr., daughter, Yvonne Marie “Bunny” Banfield Lee, and brother, Warren St. Clair Banfield. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Julia Morris Banfield, daughter, Ava Banfield Plummer, son, Stephen Michael Banfield (Lynora), grandchildren, Brian Christopher Plummer, Sabrina Holland (Brandon), Morgan Diane Plummer, Julia Banfield Calina (Laurentiu), great grandchildren, Adam Salinas-Plummer, Brandon Holland, London Holland, and Edison Lawrence Calina, brother, Dr. Michael Banfield, sister, Gloria Goulbourne (Eric), sister-in-law Gerri Banfield, sons-in-law, James C. Plummer and Philip C. Lee, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service is at 11:00 am on Monday, August 24, 2015, at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris Street, Bellaire, TX, Dr. James R. Doggette Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Houston National Cemetery.
