Edward “Eddie” Henry Debowski, 93 of Bellaire, TX, passed away April 5, 2013. He was born on July 30, 1919 in Houston, to immigrant parents, Ladislaw Debowski of Stry, Poland and Elizabeth Heiderich of Hessencasel, Germany.
Eddie honorably served in the 36th Division “Texas Division,” 141st Infantry Regiment, 111th Medical Battalion, US Army. He served in North Africa, Italy, Southern France and Germany and received an American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Purple Heart and A Commendation for “exceptionally meritorious conduct” for saving an injured Captain on the beachhead at Anzio. For this he was recommended for a Silver Star.
After the war he returned to Houston and married Margery Josephine Vetrano. They lived at and managed Lyondell Park on the San Jacinto River with three children Sharon, Eddie Jr. and Margie Anne. In 1956 the park was sold and the family moved to Bellaire, TX where a 4th child, daughter Melissa was born. They continued to raise the children and live in Bellaire. Eddie and Margie were married for 63 years. Eddie was in the hardware business in Bellaire for 35 years and retired in 1991 to spend more time hunting, fishing and enjoying the Texans and Astros games in his easy chair.
Eddie was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Charles Debowski and sister, Helen K. Carothers.
Survivors include his wife, Margery; son, Eddie Debowski Jr. and wife Laurane; daughters, Sharon Sue Debowski and husband David Doyel, Margie Anne Debowski, Melissa Debowski and husband Steve Morton; grandchildren, Rachael Kathleen Chesser and twin sister, Melissa Dawn Chesser and Derek Edward Debowski.
Funeral Service with Full Military honors will be held at 12:00 Noon, with CH(CPT) Jonathan A. Dawson, 1-149 AVN BN, Ellington JRB, officiating, Wednesday, April 10, 2013, with a viewing beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home.
