Edward Richard Zamecki, 89, of Bellaire, Texas (1937 – 2026), passed away on Saturday June 20, 2026. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Wanda and Theodore Zamecki (both deceased). Richard had two older siblings, his sister Theophilia (deceased), and his brother Robert.
Richard was an accomplished Intellectual Property and International Law attorney with a bachelor’s degree from Loyola University, a physics degree from Notre Dame and a PhD in physics from Texas A&M. Known for his wit and humor, he frequently threw out droll one-liners much to the delight of those around him. Off and on throughout his adult life Richard was involved in community theatre frequently playing the distinguished gentleman parts – except for the melodramas. Having his own training on the guitar, Richard encouraged his two children to study art and music. However, he was the only one in the theatre arts.
In approximately 1975, Richard joined Toastmasters and remained a member for many years. He frequently competed and won speaking contests and would send his adult children photos of him hold the trophies with the caption, “The proof is in the picture!” In 2025, he was recognized for his dedication and excellence for 51 years in Toastmasters.
Richard enjoyed learning about his ancestry and Polish heritage. He began learning, or relearning, the Polish language. His family and cooking and other everyday events became subjects for conversations in Polish allowing him to brag about his granddaughter and great grandsons.
Richard’s love and dedication for his faith in God and his Polish ancestry brought him to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. There he joined the Knights of Columbus where he remained a proud member of the organization rising to the rank of Fourth Level in the organization. He dedicated most of his free time to the church creating and becoming a beloved member of his Catholic Church family.
Richard Zamecki is survived by his two adult children Joseph Richard Zamecki and Janet Ann Zamecki and her husband Timothy Hesla, and their mother and good friend Cal Zamecki Wilkerson. He is also survived by his granddaughter Bethany Janay Warner and her two sons Collin and Nathan Warner, and by his brother Robert Zamecki, sister-law Wendy Zamecki, and his niece Elizabeth Zamecki, and multiple other nieces and nephews.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, 1731 Blalock Rd, Houston, TX 77080, US, on June 30, 2026, at 9:30 am with a mass of christian burial commencing at 10:00 AM. The rite of committal will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
