Elaine S. Huddleston
August 3, 1921 – March 15, 2013
Elaine Schoenvogel Huddleston passed away on March 15, 2013. The last surviving child of Clara Roberts and Dr. Otto F. Schoenvogel Sr., Elaine was born in Brenham, Texas, on August 3, 1921. Elaine graduated from Brenham High School in 1938 and earned a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin in 1942. She worked for Humble Oil during WWII, returning to Brenham to teach at Brenham High School and Blinn Jr. College. She met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Huddleston, on a blind date and they married on February 6, 1947. Settling in Houston in 1951, Elaine created a loving and nurturing home. Above all, Elaine was devoted to her family, always putting their needs above her own. She is survived by her four children, Howard L. Huddleston MD, Fred H. Huddleston AIA, Richard C. Huddleston MD, and Carol H. Rusciano JD, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Houston, Texas. The family wishes to thank the staff of Colonial Oaks Memory Care (Braeswood) for the love and care they gave our mother. A grave side service will be held Tuesday, March 19th, at 2:00 pm at Prairie Lea Cemetery, Brenham, Texas (Rev. Douglas Guthier, Pastor of First Lutheran Church, Galveston officiating). A reception will follow at Brenham Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter).
