

Dr. Elihut Ravelo Diaz-Arrastia died early in the morning on December 5, 2015 at her home. She was 87 years old. She is preceded in death by her parents Eduardo Ravelo and Conchita Isern and her brothers Eduardo Ravelo and Elizar Ravelo. Elihut leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years Dr. Ramon Diaz-Arrastia, her brother Dr. Eloy Ravelo and his wife Mercedes Ravelo, her children Dr. Ramon Diaz-Arrastia and his wife Dr. Jennifer Buchanan, George Diaz-Arrastia and his wife Maria Gomez, and Dr. Concepcion Diaz-Arrastia and her husband Edward Green. She leaves behind nine grand-children Paul, Veronica, Anne, Elliot, Theresa, Robert, Rebecca, Mark, and Madeleine.
Elihut was born on March 2, 1928 in Bayamo, Cuba. Dr. Ravelo Diaz-Arrastia received her M.D. degree from the University of Havana Medical School in 1952. Dr. Ravelo was a pioneer as one of the first female general surgeons in Cuba. After leaving Cuba with her family in 1968, she and her family settled in Houston in 1969. She engaged in the private practice of medicine in Houston until her retirement in 2012 at the age of 84. She was a member of the medical staff at Memorial Southeast Hospital, later Memorial-Hermann Southeast Hospital from 1972 until her retirement. In all, Dr. Ravelo practiced medicine for over sixty years.
Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM, Monday, December 7, 2015 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood Dr. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
