Enid was born in Brookline, Massachusetts on November 27th, 1945 but moved to Newport News, Virginia where she spent her childhood before the family finally settled on Houston in 1958.
Enid attended Spring Branch High School for her freshman through junior years and spent her senior year as a member of the first graduating class of Memorial High (1963). From there she attended the University of Texas at Austin and went on to graduate from the University of Houston in 1974. She focused on being a full-time mother for several years before going back to the U of H to earn a master’s degree in 1985 with a specialization in Education.
Enid and Ivan were married in 1970 and they had a beautiful marriage until Ivan’s passing in 2018. In addition to being loving parents they went on numerous trips around the country and the world for that matter, were constantly attending sporting events and fine arts events together. They were also wonderful grandparents and attended many of their grandchildren’s activities.
At the age of 40 Enid embarked on what would be a highly rewarding 20-year career as a teacher for the HISD. She taught science for the bulk of her career at Northing High School and Jane Long Middle School before retiring in 1997. She will be most remembered for her warm heart, kindness, and charitable passion. She started a Girl Scouts Troop at Jane Long, she volunteered as a delivery driver for Meals on Wheels and was an active member at Congregation Beth Yeshurun, singing in the high holiday choir for 40 years. She had a love for animals especially cats and dogs and there were always loving, furry pets at her home, brightening the day.
A private graveside service was held at Beth Yeshurun Cemetery where she was buried alongside Ivan, Helen, on Friday December 11th. Loving family and friends are able to view a recording of the funeral via Facebook on the Levy Funeral Director Page. Rabbi David Rosen officiated the ceremony.
