

Gary J. Long, 84, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord December 22, 2025 in Houston TX. The struggle with Lewy Body dementia and Parkinson’s was over. He was born in Atchison KS. He attended Trinity Lutheran school and Atchison High school. College started at Emporia State where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Lambda. He graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Colorado State, Pueblo CO.
Gary was a devoted husband to his wife, Kathy for 50 years, and a cherished brother and uncle to his brother Larry Long and his wife Judy (deceased) and Larry’s children, Dale (deceased), Scott, Jeanette, and Dede (deceased); and his brother Rick Long, Rick’s wife Barbie, and their children Rebekah and Charity; and sister Tammy Billings (deceased) and her children Kevin, Jennifer, Tina and Nikki.
Gary proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and later built a career as an oil and gas accountant, retiring from Ashland Exploration.
A lifelong Missouri Synod Lutheran and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Downtown, Gary’s faith guided his life and relationships. He was shy by nature and genuinely enjoyed people and expressed his care to people and animals through kindness and a gentle presence. He enjoyed scuba diving, snow skiing, fostering small dogs and rooting on the Texans and Astros.
Gary will be remembered for his warm spirit, deep faith and love he shared with his family, friends and all who knew him.
