Harold E. Selke, Sr.
December 26, 1923 – December 3, 2018
Harold Selke, 94, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2018. The youngest of three children, he was born December 26, 1923, in Houston, TX to Oscar Otto Selke, Sr. and Orile Molly Medlenka Selke. He graduated with highest honors from Sam Houston High School in 1941. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and became a Certified Public Accountant in the Fall of 1949. He had three years of active service with the Navy in World War II. He was an attack boat officer and LST navigator with the Amphibious Forces attached to the Seventh Fleet in the Pacific Theatre. After completing his education, Harold went into private accounting practice in Corpus Christi, Texas. He later served as Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service. Then he became Chief Examiner for the State Board of Insurance and then to Sam Houston Life Insurance Company as Executive Vice President. When it was sold he went to work for Stainless Distributing Company, then the Metropolitan Transit Authority from which he retired in 1995.
He married Billie Dial Campbell Oakley January 24, 1967, and they have three children, Harold Edward Selke, Jr., Kenneth Wayne Selke, and Amy Selke McCay. They were happily married for almost 52 years. Harold attended South Main Baptist Church since 1967. He enjoyed South Main and particularly the Men’s Bible Class. His faith was the foundation of his life making him a man of high character, conviction and integrity. Likewise, his humble and generous nature, as well as his love for his family, made Harold the husband, father, grandfather, and friend that all admired and loved. Preceding him in death were his father, mother, brother, Oscar Otto Selke, Jr., sister, Orile Selke Grice, and his son, Stuart Foster Oakley. Surviving him are his wife, Billie Selke; son, Harold Edward Selke, Jr. and wife, Donna, son, Kenneth Wayne Selke, and daughter, Amy Selke McCay and husband Tim. Also surviving are grandchildren, Bradley Edward Selke and wife, Meghan, Timothy Edward McCay, and Jonathan Stuart McCay, and nieces and nephews, C. Richard Selke & wife, Susan, Carol A. Selke Brophy & husband, Mike, Barbara E. Selke-Kern & husband, Homer, and Bruce H. Selke & wife, Cindy.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018, in the chapel at South Main Baptist Church, 4100 South Main, Houston, TX 77002, with Dr. Steve Wells officiating. Memorials may be made to South Main Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

I shed a few tears when I read Harold Selke's Obit Notice.
Both Harold & Oscar Selke were genuine gentlemen!
It was my good fortune to get to know both of them.
