Helen Judith Willis, 98, a resident of Houston, Texas, born in Mandan, North Dakota went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 12. 2017. Mrs. Willis was preceded in death by her parents Joseph F. Vavra and Katherine Beba Vavra; her spouse of 62 years Alon P. Willis Jr. of Jena, Louisiana, adopted son Cavin, one sister and seven brothers, three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Mrs. Willis is survived by her nieces Beverly Ridemann of North Dakota and Patricia Wilson of Wharton, Texas; granddaughter Sarah Peterson, four great-grandchildren: Jasmin, Zachariah, Melody and Carmen; one sister-in-law, Thelma Spears of Beaumont, Texas; numerous great nephews and nieces as well as many nieces-in-law and nephews-in-law. Mrs. Willis was loved by all and was the favorite Aunt of many of her nieces, nieces-in-law and nephews. She had a loving and generous spirit to all, opening her home for some of them to live there as they looked for jobs or attended college, etc. Mrs. Willis was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she attended often and had many friends. Services will be at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home in Bellaire, Texas at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, with Rev. Joseph Mathanath officiating. Burial will be at Houston Veterans Cemetery.

I first met Helen in 1980 at the first GCTP dance we went with Janelle Walker, so that's 47 years ago. In the time since, she is one of the classiest ladies I've ever met. She loved by all and Will be missed!

Just received a note from Helen in the mail in her 2017 Christmas Card yesterday. Just learned about her passing today. .... She was asking with regards to our health. She was fine in the note. A dear friend and we will miss her forever. Ahoe
