

Hugh was born on December 6, 1922 in Terre Haute, Indiana to John and Eva Whaley.
Hugh enlisted in the United States Army and served in Burma and China as a member of the Mountain Pack Artillery during WW II. He attended Indiana State University where he studied Journalism and Public Relations. In 1946, he and his wife, Claire Whaley moved to Houston, Texas.
Hugh worked at Terminix and learned the pest control business. In 1956, he started his own company, Whaley Pest Control, which he owned and managed until his retirement in 1990.
Over the years, Hugh was very active in the Bellaire community. He was involved with the Bellaire Youth Sports groups and was a coach of a Bellaire Little League team. He served as President of the Bellaire Kiwanis and helped the building of Bellaire United Methodist Church over 60 years ago. He and Claire were original members of the church and the Gibson Class and implemented the brick garden at the church while serving as co-chair of the 50th anniversary of BUMC in 1996. He was an avid golfer and an accomplished gardener.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 67 years, Claire, his daughter, Jann Whaley and his son, Hugh C. Whaley and his wife, Linda; his four grandchildren Tyler, Maddelyn, Emma and Ethann Whaley.
In lieu of flowers, donations to: Bellaire United Methodist Church - Brick Garden or The American Cancer Society, Houston Chapter or The Alzheimers Association, Houston Chapter, would be appreciated.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home 6700 Ferris. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 25 at 11:00am at Bellaire United Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Blvd., Bellaire, TX 77401. Interment will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
