The world is an emptier place, Inmaculada (Inma) Harris passed away on September 17, 2023 in Houston, TX. Inma was born in 1934 in Salamanca, Spain. She lived there until the conclusion of the Spanish Civil War, to which she then moved to Madrid with her family. Inma often recounted the experiences and appreciation she had for Spanish culture.
Inma then moved to San Francisco and fell in love with the city. She frequently recalled all of the wonderful sights and adventures that took place during her time there. Enhancing her love and appreciation for San Francisco, she gave birth to her only child, Juan B. Harris, during her time in the City by the Bay. In the 1960s, Inma and her family moved to Houston, Texas to which she embarked on a wide-ranging career. Inma spent some of her adult life bringing her culture to the youth as a Spanish teacher at several parochial schools. After her time as an educator, Inma spent time in the oil and gas, law, and philanthropy industries.
Inma was an avid traveler, returning to Spain at every opportunity she could get. A side trip to other countries was always involved, making sure she was able to visit every country in Europe. Her appreciation for the arts and culture led her to spend much of her free time in Houston volunteering at the Rienzi Institute, introducing her friends and family to the arts. She also had a love and appreciation for the musical arts, frequently visiting the Alley Theater for varying performances. You could sense her appreciation of the arts from the moment you stepped foot in her home, hearing strings of jazz percussion and glancing at the many pieces of art she had collected over the years.
Inma loved spending time with her grandchildren Joshua, Sophia and Matthew. They were her pride and joy and would discuss them with anyone she met. While her family mourns the loss of their mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, they are comforted knowing they have gained an angel.
Inma is survived by her son, Juan Harris, daughter-in-law, Dana Avioli Harris, grandchildren, Joshua, Sophia, and Matthew Harris, and her brother, sisters and many nieces and nephews in Madrid, Spain. The family would like to thank all of her wonderful caregivers at The Forum assisted living and the entire staff of Houston Hospice who made her journey a peaceful experience.
