James E. Smitherman, III, “Jim”, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend left this earth on Friday, October 25th, 2024. Jim leaves behind his wife of 57 years, Geralyn, and 4 children, Geralyn Ritter, Kent Smitherman, Scott Smitherman and Wendy Leopoulos, and his brother Robert Smitherman. He dearly loved his 12 grandchildren, Austin, Bradley and Steven Ritter; Sarah, Katherine, and Nathan Smitherman; Gabriella, Zoe, James, and Sophia Smitherman; and Olivia and Ethan Leopoulos.
Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Jim was a proud graduate and devoted fan of LSU. He had a long and successful career in the oil industry, and loved spending time at his cabin in the Colorado mountains. His family will miss his gentle manner, never-worry attitude, generosity, and raucous games of cards around the kitchen table.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 3pm in the main sanctuary of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 5501 Main Street, Houston, Texas, 77004. Reception to follow.
