He was 88 years old and lived much longer than many doctors expected after being diagnosed in 1991 with a benign brain tumor. He struggled with the effects of this tumor for almost 30 years, but never stopped fighting and never gave up. Thankfully he is now at peace and is no longer suffering.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Sol Meyers and Ida Friedman Meyers, his brother Bernie Meyers, his sister Syd Meyers Bassik, his wife Harriette Eichen Meyers and daughters Jana Beth Meyers and Leslie Jaye Meyers. He is survived by his son, Leigh Ari Meyers and his wife Kim, and his 5 grandchildren, Meagan Meyers, Rachael Lahar, Joshua Lahar, Zachary Meyers, and Griffin Meyers.
Jay was born and raised in The Bronx, New York, and went on to serve in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. He then attended Rutgers University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in International Business. He married Harriette Eichen Meyers in NYC and together they raised a beautiful family in Colonia, New Jersey, where Jay owned New Jersey International Movers. The family moved to Nassau Bay, Texas, in 1980. He was active in his local synagogue, Shaar Hashalom and enjoyed volunteering at St. John’s Hospital and Clear Creek Community Theatre. Jay was notorious for telling jokes and he loved to give nicknames to anyone near and dear to him. His priorities were his love for Hashem and his Jewish faith as well as his love for family. There was always a bright light shining from Jay’s eyes and that light will be terribly missed.
A private family graveside service will be held for Jay on December 23, 2020, at 11:00am at Forest Park East Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Harriette and daughter, Leslie.
Family and friends are able to view a livestream of the funeral via Facebook on the Levy Funeral Director Page. To access the livestream: 1) Log into Facebook with your own account, 2) Go to the Levy Funeral Directors Page, and 3) search for service in feed.
The family would like to thank the nurses and case workers at Regency Village, HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake Hospital and the staff at Harbor Hospice, who cared for Jay in a way that can only be described as the work of G-d here on earth. Their guidance and compassion are a gift to all.
