Born and raised in Houston, Jerry graduated from Bellaire High School. He ran a business of family-owned golf stores for 20+ years, and enjoyed interacting with his customers, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Jerry was passionate about Judaism. As the child of Holocaust survivors, family was very important to him, and celebrating Jewish holidays surrounded by family and food was a priority. It meant everything to him to pass on his Jewish values to his children and grandchildren.
Jerry’s biggest joy was his grandchildren. It would bring him great happiness to take them to their favorite restaurants and bring them their favorite foods. His grandchildren lovingly nicknamed him “The Muffin Man” this past year, because even though they could not be together as normal, he would regularly drop off their favorite muffins. Jerry / Dad / Zayde will be greatly missed.
Jerry is survived by his children David Fishel and his wife Bari, his daughter Liba Stern and her husband Todd, his grandchildren Max, Elise, Oliver, Fitz, and Theodore, his brother Ricky Fishel, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline Fishel and Isadore Fishel, and his sister Mary Ann Esther Tarlo.
A graveside service to remember Jerry was held on Tuesday, March 16th at Adath Israel Cemetery
