Joy Lee Nall, born October 17, 1932, in Seminole, Oklahoma, passed away on March 14, 2026, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 93, after a long journey with Parkinson's disease. She lived a full, vibrant life and never once sat still if there was something to be done, someone to help, or a good time to be had.
Joy married William Richard Nall on April 21, 1950, and the two had 3 children and built a wonderful life together until his passing on August 13, 1990. She later married Earl B.
Patterson in November 1991, and they shared many happy years before his passing on February 5, 2016. Joy had a long and successful career at Vinson & Elkins, where she worked for Bob Randolph for many years before retiring.
Joy was the kind of person who could do just about anything and do it well. She was a lifelong bowler, an enthusiastic square dancer, and an avid card player who loved her nightly card games with friends. For over a decade, she hand-sewed all the dance costumes for her daughters' dance studio, pouring creativity and love into every stitch. Her fried chicken was legendary, the meal everyone in the family requested for their birthdays.
When Joy moved to Eagles Trace Senior Living in 2007, she threw herself into community life with her trademark energy. At 73, she started a tap dancing group for seniors that performed all over Houston and was even featured on a local television show. She also founded a Wii Bowling Club for seniors that continues to this day. If there was an activity at Eagles Trace, Joy was involved in it.
Joy was a lifelong Methodist and a devoted member of St. Peter's Methodist Church, where her faith provided a steady foundation throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathi Lynn Nall; Cindy Nall Brannon and her husband Mike; and William Brock Nall and his deceased wife Pam; her beloved grandson, Blake Brannon, and his wife, Sydni; great-grandchildren Gabriella Brannon, Knox Brannon, and Jillian Brannon; and Earl's cherished family, including Randall and Linda Patterson, grandchildren Stephanie and Scott Moncrieff, Audra and Colin Farley, and Julia Patterson, and great-grandchildren Eleanor Moncrieff, Madeline Moncrieff, Camden Farley, and Declan Farley. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sulma Arroy for the loving care she provided to "Miss Joy" during the last year of her life.
Joy will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at Eagles Trace on a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Eagles Trace Scholars Fund or the Eagles Trace Residents Care Fund.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Sulma Arroy for the loving care she provided to "Miss Joy" during the last year of her life.
