
Karen Greenspan, 66, passed suddenly on Wednesday October 1, 2014 in the presence of family. Born on October 30, 1947 in Bayonne, New Jersey, she is survived by her only child, Keith Van Horne and his wife Kelly, grandchildren Kara, Spenser and Lauryn Van Horne, brother Michael Greenspan and wife Joanne, brother Jay Greenspan and wife Daena, her step mother Ruth, as well as several nieces and nephews. Karen is preceded in death by her mother and father, Fay Cohen Greenspan and Alexander Greenspan.
Karen loved to learn and as such was highly educated holding a Bachelors in Education and two Masters; one in accounting and the other in Human Resources. Throughout her life she had several professions including teaching Latin, English, and Hebrew, working both as a CPA, and Human Resources Administrator. Her hobbies included jewelry making, volunteering for charitable organizations, watching movies, going to the theater, and doing anything that involved her grandchildren.
Karen was very active in the Jewish community as well as with her Temple (Sinai). After being diagnosed with Scleroderma, she became an activist for the Scleroderma Foundation, where she spent countless hours of fundraising and supporting the cause.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 5th, 2014 at Temple Sinai, located at 13875 Brimhurst Drive, Houston, TX 77077. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to either Temple Sinai (www.temple-sinai.org) or the Scleroderma Foundation in memory of Karen Greenspan (www.scleroderma.org).
