She is survived by her daughter, Samantha Fewox of Houston, Texas; beloved grandson Collin; brother Douglas V. She is preceded in death by her parents Douglas V. Marshall and Cora Lee Dollinger Marshall and her brother Dudley Marshall.
Katsie, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on November 9, 1942 in Beaumont, Texas. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to West University Place, a burgeoning neighborhood bordering Rice University. She attended school at St. Vincent de Paul, Marian High School, Texas Women’s University and Lamar University.
She was a strong and faithful Christian who believed in the power of prayer and in helping her community. For several years, she could be found passing out food to those in need and praying over them. She loved to travel and took long road trips with her daughter across the country to show her the beauty of the mountains, beaches, and deserts. A trip to Europe was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Katsie also was a talented artist who created beautiful stained-glass pieces and jewelry.
Katsie’s love for her grandson Collin was fierce. She attended all his baseball and football games growing up. And when she no longer had the mobility to sit in the stands she would park her car behind the outfield and cheer him on. In football, she subscribed to a livestream service so she could see him in action. She lived long enough to see his final high school football season and she was so proud of him and all his accomplishments, but most importantly how he was maturing into a loving, kind and compassionate young man.
She worked in employee benefits for more than 50 years as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, most recently at AIG Valic.
Her fighting spirit was one to be reckoned with. She never gave up nor did she complain when life became hard. She taught all those around her the definition of strength. And when anyone questioned life’s difficulties, she always said, “have faith in God.” She will be greatly missed, but her family is comforted that she is in the arms of her loving God.
A memorial is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, at 2 p.m. at Earthman’s Bellaire, 4525 Bissonnet. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Katsie’s life.
