LOUISE STOLAROFF, born January 17, 1930 in Wichita Falls, Texas, died peacefully Wednesday March 18, 2026 at home in Greensboro, North Carolina. She grew up in Midland, Texas and moved to Houston in 1953, where she worked as an executive secretary for Humble Oil Company.
In 1954, she met Leonard Stolaroff, a dashing senior JAG at Ellington Field. He showed up for a date with her roommate, and the rest is 47-year romantic history. They married on July 28, 1956 at Beth Yeshurun Synagogue and then settled outside the loop in Hunters Creek Village. They raised three children, Sonia (Mitropoulos), Shelley (Segal) and Mark in a joyous home. When her children left the nest to pursue careers in the 1980’s, Louise pursued her dream of furthering her education.
She attended the University of Saint Thomas and eventually became a therapist at TIFP, the Texas Institute of Family Psychiatry. She specialized in parent-child dynamics and worked with children who were struggling with behavioral and emotional disorders. Championing children came naturally to her. When Leonard suffered a massive stroke in 1988, she left TIFP to manage her husband’s care. They remained together until his passing in 2003.
After developing her own health issues in 2011, she moved to Greensboro to be closer to Shelley and her family, and receive intimate care. Greensboro became a convenient hub for all family members. Shelley was thrilled to introduce her mother to Greensboro, and she left an indelible impression on all who knew her—especially her beloved friends and caregivers—through her Southern charm, grace, generosity, and radiant spirit.
Louise is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Jim Mitropoulos, of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Jeffrey Segal, of Greensboro, NC; her son, Mark, of Los Angeles, CA; her four grandchildren, Dr. Tanya Mitropoulos Choi, (and husband Andrew Choi), of Christiansburg, VA, Michael Mitropoulos of Nashville, TN, Jordan Segal, of Los Angeles, CA, and Josh Segal of Greensboro, NC; and her great granddaughter, Evie Choi of Christiansburg, VA.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, March 23, 2026 in the Bender Chapel at the Beth Yeshurun Post Oak Cemetery, 7445 Awty School Lane Houston, TX 77055, with Rabbi David Rosen officiating. Interment will follow at the gravesite, and then a reception honoring her life will immediately follow at the Earthman Funeral Home, 4525 Bissonnet St, Bellaire, TX 77401.
