Margaret Ann Paff

Margaret Ann Paff, 94, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2019. Margaret was born on May 8, 1924 in Joplin, Missouri. She grew up in Defiance, Ohio and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1949 where she began her career with Carter Oil, a predecessor to Exxon Corp. She also lived in Naples, Florida and had brief stays in Libya and Iran where her former husband was a petroleum engineer for Exxon. She moved to Houston in1965 to continue work with Exxon from which she retired in 1986 after 32 years of service.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jeanette (Sloan) Evans of Defiance, her brother, James Evans and wife Beatrice of Richmond, Virginia and her former husband, George Paff of Lakeland, Florida. She is survived by two nephews, James Evans and wife Carol of Richmond, Virginia and John Evans of Charlotte, North Carolina, as well as two grandnieces, Catherine Evans of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Carey Evans and husband Chad of Washington, DC.
Not having had children of her own, her nephews were like sons to her, and they in turn considered her a very special aunt. Magaret’s great zest for life made her fun and easy for her nephews to identify with. She had a tremendous sense of humor and was constantly laughing.
Margaret was a voracious reader. She particularly enjoyed historical novels and biographies and often compared notes on books with Carol, her niece in law. She also enjoyed keeping current on national and world events and loved to follow political happenings and political discourse and commentary. She possessed master bridge skills and played duplicate bridge for decades up until a few months before her death. In earlier years, she enjoyed ballroom dancing and participated in a number of dance contests around the country.
A memorial service for Margaret will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Brazos Towers, 4141 S. Braeswood, in Houston.
