

Margaret "Elaine" Stannard, 94, passed away on May 9, 2011. Elaine was born on November 7, 1916 in Houston, Texas. She lived a life of helping others as an alcoholism counselor for families and spouses. For many years she volunteered at the Houston Council on Alcoholism manning a hot line for spouses and children of alcoholics. She provided referral information and shared her experience in helping families recover from the disease of alcoholism. Her volunteer work and success in meeting family’s needs led to a full time job as an alcoholism counselor at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston, Texas. For over 15 years she worked with her husband, Bill continuing to provide guidance and support to families of alcoholics and sharing their experience in recovery.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband Charles Harrison “Bill” Stannard, who passed away in December, 1988. She is survived by four children: Charles “Chuck” Stannard, Robert “Bob” Stannard and wife Ana, Donald “Mike” Stannard and wife Esther, Kathy Stannard Meglasson and husband Martin. Elaine was blessed with 6 grandchildren (Rob, Scott, Teresa, Debbie, Kara, and Kristine) and 6 great grandchildren (Caleb, Andie Rose, Cooper, Blaise, Bauer and Issac). There will be a Visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris. The Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday May 12, 2011 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women’s Behavioral Unit at St. Joseph Medical Center care of Ms. Fritz Guthrie, 1401 St. Joseph Parkway, Houston, Texas, 77002 or by calling 713-756-8236
