

Marilyn Helen (Factor) Shaw passed away Friday, March 31, 2017, at the age of 87, as beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Marla Shaw Reiner and her children, Courtney Baldwin, Ashley Reiner and her husband Nick Marullo, and Brittany Reiner and her partner Matthew Souza and their daughter Skylar Souza; as well as her son, David Shaw and his partner Angie Flores, and his son Brandon Shaw, and her daughter Brittany Flores; and her daughter-in-law, Margaret Shaw and her daughters, Danielle and Samantha Shaw. She was predeceased in life by her parents, Ben and Peggy Factor, her sister Elaine Strauss and her husband Al Strauss and their children Susan and Gerald Strauss, as well as by her husband of 44 years, Joel Franklin Shaw, and her son Joel Shaw, II.
Marilyn was born in Pueblo, Colorado on January 24, 1930. Shortly thereafter, Marilyn’s family moved to San Francisco, California, where she grew up. Marilyn graduated from UC Berkeley with honors. While attending Berkeley, she met Joel while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. Once they married, they moved to Texas, where they settled permanently to raise their children and build their commercial real estate business.
Marilyn worked tirelessly for the causes and organizations she believed in, which includes serving as past president of the Houston Hillel Chapter, for which she served on the advisory committee up until her death; as past president of the Goldberg B’nai B’rith Towers, for which she also served on the Board of Directors; on the Houston Hillel Advisory Committee, and as an active member of the Greater Southwest Region of Hadassah and the B’nai B’rith Women’s Houston Chapter, to name a few. Marilyn enjoyed traveling the world and exploring other cultures. She was a vivacious woman full of life and all that it had to offer. Marilyn was kind and compassionate to everyone who crossed paths with her. Her memory will be a blessing to all those who knew her.
Memorial Service will be held Friday, April 14, 2017 at 1:00PM at Congregation Beth Israel following an inurnment at Beth Israel Memorial Garden 1101 Antoine Dr. Houston, TX77055.
