
Sister Marilyn Vanden Bosch, O.P. entered eternal life on October 24, 2014. She was born in Shreveport, LA, to the late Mary L. Jacobs and Henry Vanden Bosch on April 1,1936. The youngest of her siblings, Sister is predeceased by her brother Henry, Jr. and sister-in-law Helen. She is survived by her brother John and sister-in-law Dolly and by nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
The family moved to Beaumont in 1943 where she attended St. Anthony Elementary and High school. After graduation Sister Marilyn joined the Dominican Sisters of Houston on September 8, 1953. She received her B.A. from Dominican College and worked toward her Masters in Library Science while teaching. Her 50-year ministry in education sent her to schools in Houston (Assumption, Christ the King, St. Augustine, St. Peter, St. Christopher, St. Jerome, St. Anne, St. Mary, Seton Catholic Junior High), in Orange, Austin, and Riverside, CA. In addition to teaching she was involved as librarian and development director in several schools. An avid reader, she shared her love of literature with her students.
No one ever left hungry when visiting Sister Marilyn. Her culinary skills were obvious and appreciated. She chaired the baking committee for the annual Villa sale for many years, giving many hours to her own contribution for the event.
Sister’s body will be received at St. Dominic Villa on Monday, October 27, at 4:00 p.m. Wake service begins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mass of Christian Burial is Tuesday, October 28, at 10:00 a.m. Services are at St. Dominic Villa; interment at Forest Park Lawndale at 1:00 p.m.
