

Mema, as she was known to everyone, was born on March 31st 1924 to Thomas and Avis Barrett, in Flat River Missouri. She was 9th of 12 children and had 8 sisters and 3 brothers.
She graduated Valedictorian of her high school class in 1942 and served her country during WWII by working for the War Department in St. Louis, Missouri.
After the war, she met Charles in St. Louis and they were married on July 31st 1953 and lived in Tyler, Texas prior to moving to Houston in 1962. She has resided in Houston for the past 54 years.
After taking a few years off to raise the children, she went back to work for the Veterans Administration Hospital and retired in 1986 after 30 years of service.
She was preceded in death by Charles, her loving Husband of 57 years and all of her brothers and sisters except for Carol Daniels of Sugarland Texas and Peggy Matkin of Slidell Louisiana.
She is survived by her son Duane and wife Melinda, daughter Elizabeth and partner Karol, and daughter Emily. She is also survived by her grandchildren Arman Gemelo and wife Michelle, Shelly Goode, Kathryn and Laura Wuestner, great-granddaughters Ashley Downs, Kayla Gemelo and a host of other relatives, neighbors and church friends.
There will be a visitation at Earthman's Bellaire Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28, 2016 morning from 9:00 to 10:00 am. A family run service will follow from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Interment will be at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, located at Westheimer and Dairy Ashford, at 12:00 pm.
