Ann Putney, age 86, returned to Our Lord on April 10, 2026, after an extended illness. She was surrounded by family in the Houston home where she lived for the past sixty-six years. Born to Mary and William Milton in Houston on November 30, 1939, she spent her early years in West University, where she made numerous lifelong friends. It was also during this formative period that she met her future husband and the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Putney, whom she married in August 1957 after her graduation from Lamar High School. They remained together, inseparable, for the next sixty-eight years.
Ann was a strong, resilient person and a devout Catholic, overcoming the tragic loss of both parents by the age of sixteen. After raising three children, she returned to school, ultimately graduating Cum Laude from the University of Texas School of Nursing. Following completion of a rigorous internship at Park Plaza Hospital, she joined Memorial Hermann Hospital, enjoying numerous promotions. She ultimately rose to become Director of Women’s Services, and her impact at the hospital was far-reaching. During her tenure, she was responsible for the hiring and management of hundreds of nurses and staff charged with the care of the hospital’s maternity and obstetric patients.
Following her retirement from hospital care, Ann continued her devotion to service by volunteering with the Charity Guild of Catholic Women, the San Jose Clinic, and the Cristo Rey Jesuit school. Her commitment to family was immeasurable, and she spent untold hours attending school and sporting events for her grandchildren, braving carpool lines and hosting family gatherings. Her presence in the lives of her family and friends will be greatly missed.
Ann is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Rich Putney (Shelley), Amy Calvin (Todd), and Mike Putney (Katie); her grandchildren, Kate Haisten (Mack), Clay Putney (Aleshia), Taylor Calvin (Kevin), Kyle Calvin (Ashley), Brooke Putney, and Kaitlyn Calvin; and her great-grandchildren, Bradley Haisten, Patton Haisten, Hope Haisten, and Shepherd Calvin.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 on Thursday April 30th at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9900 Stella Link Road, Houston, Texas 77025, with reception to follow at Prefontaine Hall on the church campus. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Charity Guild of Catholic Women, or the Cristo Rey Jesuit school.
