Matthew James Hachen was our beautiful gift from God. He was born August 27, 2000 and we welcomed him into our home August 29, 2000. We were so blessed to have him in our lives!

Matthew loved being the comedian. He was so good at brightening up everyone’s day. He just had a hard time brightening up his own. Always joking, singing everything Alessia Cara wrote or songs from Les Miserables. Our son had a tender soul and a strong sense of humor. He was kind and had a fierce and unyielding love for his friends. Matthew would willingly share anything he had with others. He touched many lives in his short life and will be deeply missed.

Matthew loved music. He made attempts at learning the piano and even the cello, focusing on YoYo Ma. Earplugs always in his ears, either listening to Taylor Swift in his younger years, to Arianna Grande and Alessia Carr in later years. He loved being with our menagerie of animals in the house, Bella our dog, Draco our cat and his two Guinea pigs, Sprite and Pepsi. There are many a time you might have found Bella and him lying on the floor together. All this is merely an example of his sweet and caring soul.

Matthew is survived by his mother and father, Melissa and Jay Hachen, his brother, Joseph, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Many thanks to Dr Norma Clarke and Jennifer Chapple for the kindness and caring for our son. We are richer in our lives for having known and loved him and eternally grateful for having him in our lives.

A Visitation with Rosary will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, May 7th from 6-8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held there Friday May 8th at 9:00 AM followed by internment at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.

I distinctly remember Matthew coming to a meeting I was attending at SVdP one evening a couple of years ago when he was looking for his father. He came in the room quietly and was quickly scanning the faces of all the men in the room, searching for his dad. His eyes and face lit up when he saw his father. Jay was needed at home. They left together; father and son.

Sweet little bro the last time we hung was exactly a year ago. I came the first week of May, 2019 to spend quality time with the family and I'll charish it now more than ever. Science time at the museum and puppy heros at the IMAX (you loved that), then an awesome night out to mexican followed by the theater. The play, the name I don't remember, was mediocre at best--but sitting next to you, both of us placed directly behind a pole, totally obstructing our view--we spent the time laughing at each other as we strained our necks to see what was going on--THAT was what made the night so special. Matthew, with your tremendous heart and mischevious tendencies, you are missed beyond words, but will live forever in our hearts. I love you so much.

Matthew was my close friend, it broke my heart to hear about your passing, I remember the times when he and I would Skype call and talk for hours, making each other smile and laugh, he was a warm hearted person all the time, we helped each other through whatever we were struggling through, we never wanted each other to be down, he was so helpful and loving, later on we did distance as we got older, I will forever regret the distancing from my friend. But all the more I know Heaven has gained a beautiful angel, I love you and will miss you forever. Rest Peacefully Matt ❤️
