Max was born in Houston, Texas and graduated from Lanier Middle School and Lamar Senior High School. Throughout her life, she had a great love of all things artistic; music, dance, design, and visual arts and loved to create things from where there was once nothing. She was an accomplished artist who studied under several teachers; most recently Mindy Herrick, who curated two shows for her at local galleries. She had a unique flair, sense of individuality, and an indomitable quest to do more and learn more. Even through adversity, she loved life until the last moments.
For the last 11 years, Max struggled with the effects of a debilitating neurological disease and though her abilities were limited; her determination, drive, and sense of humor never dimmed. In her own unique way, she never felt sorry for herself and comforted those around her, whenever she was faced with a setback. Of most importance to her were her family; her many friends; and Dexter, her Labradoodle.
Max is survived by her father, Kent Schaffer; her mother, Nancy Antunez Schaffer; her brothers, Zachary Schaffer and Marshall Dylan Schaffer; her grandmother, Myrna Schaffer; her long-time nanny, caretaker, and friend Sofia Cruz; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Dr. Randolph Schaffer, Dorothy Minchen, Betty Jo Sherlock and Dr. Max Antunez.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 3, 2014, at 11:00 A.M.; at the Beth Israel Memorial Gardens, located at 1101 Antoine, Houston, Texas 77005.
