

Melba Jean Carlson was born on August 5, 1926. She passed away on November 24, 2012. She was preceded in death by parents Raymond and Alberta Prowse and brother Edward Prowse. She is survived by husband Ernest Carlson, son Dan Carlson and his wife Jill Carlson, grandson Zachary Carlson, granddaughter Alexandra Carlson and brother-in-law Robert Carlson. Melba was born in Houston and grew up in the Heights. She attended Travis Elementary, Hogg Junior High, and John H. Reagan High School. In high school she was a member of the National Honor Society and in her senior year she was elected cheerleader. In the same year she met Ernest Carlson, her future husband.
After Melba finished U of H Business School she worked in the mortgage industry. On December 27th 1948 she married Ernest Carlson, her high school sweetheart. Melba continued working until she retired in 1961 as Office Manager with Champion Mortgage Co. Shortly thereafter she gave birth to Dan Carlson, the joy of her life.
During the next 17 years she managed the household and raised her son. With her son away at college Melba turned to volunteer work. Melba was an elementary school librarian, managed the Bellaire Hospital Gift Shop, was active in the Aggie Moms Club and was head of her Church’s Chancel committee. She was also faithful caregiver for members of her family.
Melba was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She put her life in the care of her Lord and God. Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name will trust in you for you Lord have never forsaken those who seek you.
We will miss Melba, but memories of her amazing love and goodness will remain forever. Funeral services, conducted by Pastor David Roschke, will be at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4930 Belfort, Houston, TX on November 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Private interment at Forest Park Lawndale will be attended by members of the family. Remembrances can be made to: Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church; Houston Hospice; or the Alzheimer’s Association. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Houston Hospice and The Methodist Hospital’s 3rd Floor ICU Unit and Dr. Joseph Sucher for their loving care of Melba.
