Michael Laird McIver

Michael Laird McIver passed away July 24, 2026 in Houston, TX. He was born July 26, 1945, in New York City. Michael was a certified Rolfer for over 50 years. He studied directly under Dr. Ida P. Rolf, the founder of Rolfing. He had a passion for arts, music, hiking, and reading.

Michael always had a big, bright, luminous smile. He had a way of bringing out the best in everyone. He valued his time at AA but most of all was proud of his 32-year sobriety.

Michael and Ariana were married at The Esalen Institute where Michael worked in his early 20’s. Michael loved being a father. He was a good family man. After marrying Ariana, one of his proudest moments he spoke of often was when Ariana’s son, Michael Richardson, started calling him “Dad.”

Michael loved being Ariana’s husband. He was the perfect partner, a gifted healer, and was a brilliant light in the world. He created an original CD, Sweet Ariana, that includes the lyrics, “Sweet Ariana, won’t you come out and dance with me, dance in the yard in the new fallen leaves” and ends with “I’ll whirl you, and twirl you, and dance cheek to cheek with you, and we’ll go on dancing as long as we please.” And the Sweet Ariana song ends “We’ll fly up to Heaven on wings made of love.” That’s what he’s doing now. He is pure spirit.
