

Michael Andrew Schultz, z”l, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and son, who possessed strong business acumen, was a keen financial advisor and had a great sense of humor and loved playing cards, reading newspapers, watching horse racing and listening to ’70s rock. Michael died on July 20, 2025, following a 5-year-long battle with Lewy body dementia. He was 66.
Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years, Kem Schultz; daughters Colleen (Michael Duke), and Alison (David Borrelli); five grandchildren – Miles, Cole, Emmett, Cecilia and Natalie; brother Jeffrey Schultz; stepmother Ann Schultz; and stepsister Jan Franklin. He is preceded in death by parents Richard M. Schultz and Sandra Zimmerman Schultz and brother Robert Brian Schultz.
Michael was born March 10, 1959, in Shreveport, La. He earned a bachelor of science degree in finance from Louisiana State University in 1981 and joined LSU’s Theta Xi fraternity, where he made many friends. It was also at LSU where he met his future wife, Kem, whom he married in 1982.
Starting his business career after college, Michael worked in, and helped run, successful family businesses, including Delta Paper Stock in Houston, which prompted his move to the Bayou City in 1987.
In 2007, Michael became a licensed financial advisor. He retired from Raymond James in 2020.
Michael especially loved spending time with his family. He was a horse racing enthusiast, who visited racetracks around the country. He also enjoyed riding roller coasters, playing cards, board games and video games, and sharing laughs with loved ones. Michael took great pleasure in finding ways to save money and delighted in a good deal and a check with an error in his favor.
Michael’s family expresses thanks to the staff of the Silverado Hermann Park Memory Care Community for tending to his needs late in life.
Michael Andrew Schultz, z”l, will be laid to rest at Emanu El Memorial Park cemetery on July 24, 2025. To perpetuate his memory, donations may be made in Michael’s memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, lbda.org/donate.
